MG MG Y Type - Various fuel related problems ... again
| Back in August we had a thread on here about various fuel related problems, one of which was the fuel sender and I happily reported that noslocators on eBay sell just the right one. To give you an update on this situation, although it IS the correct unit, you have to make a minor modification. 1) Take the arm off (it is held in place by a pinch bolt), 2) Straighten the arm, cut about 1.2 inches (3cm) off the non-float end, 3) refit it to the pinch bolt pushing it almost up to the body of the sender but allowing enough room for it to swing up and down freely, 4) Tighten the pinch bolt, then gently bend the arm down so that it is at about a 120 degree internal angle when the float is in the empty position (or down). This will then allow the sender to be mounted into the fuel tank without bottoming out on the bottom of the tank and giving you a false reading of half full on an empty tank. Hope this clarifies the position and I will also be advising noslocators that they need to advise buyers of this if fitting it to an MG Y tank. Cheers, Paul |
