MG MG Y Type - transmissions

Can anyone tell me if there was a different transmission fitted to early YA cars?The one that I have looks like a modified TC. It is short and the shift lever is bolted to the very top of the transmission. There is no extension housing.

Sounds like a standard Y gearbox to me.
