MG MG Y Type - Thanks guys

Thanks for all the advice and support you have offered over my first year of Y ownership.

I now have a lovely YA that works - the running rumble/vibration was caused by a worn water pump and with that replaced, I can tolerate speeds over 50mph, in fact during a short run on the motorway this evening 60+ was OK.

Hopefully a longer run this weekend will demonstrate that the water use problem has gone with the old water pump.

So, with a re-built engine, new clutch, new dynamo (x2), new regulator (x2), new water pump and pulley, new flashers, new hi-level brake light, new tyres and tubes (x5), new exhaust system (on order) the old girl is getting a bit like Captain Cook's original axe - only had 5 new handles and 3 new heads.

MG

Hi Murray

I echo your sentiments exactly. In 1994, when I bought my first Y I experienced the same thing ... and it doesnt stop after the first year either like a guarantee, but goes on. Y-folk are a breed apart from mere MG owners, always going above and beyond for others. It was that attitude from the then members of the MG Car Club Y Register that decided me to join the committee and pay that back/pass on to others.

How about you joining up? We need a new Regalia person. What part of London are you in?

I can tell you from my recent personal experience that what Paul says is "the Gospel". The support bac ked up with all the knowledge from our diectors and all the people in the field in our owners venue is valuable way beyond what money can buy...Thanks

Just to close the loop, the water problem does appear to be solved. Went past Northampton to the MG Saloons day and back without incident and the water consumption has dropped from 1 litre per 5 miles before the engine re-build, to 1 litre per 30 miles after the re-build to 1 litre per 200 miles after the new water pump.

As regards Regalia involvement - two problems: We have a very small flat here in London with zero storage and secondly, we will be retiring back to NZ before too much longer so any long term involvement will be from down-under.
