MG MG Y Type - Spring run

Just got back this evening from the Y spring run weekend in Derbyshire. WHAT A GREAT WEEKEND!!!!

My thanks to Jerry for his invite and the effort needed to organise such an event. Top hotel, excellent food, many beers to choose from and great company.

The spring run on Sunday was an experience never to be forgotten, up hills, down dales, fording rivers, driving through single lane tunnels, down tracks with grass growing down the middle of the road, and that was on the planned route! I will not mention the unplanned diversions many of us took.

Ann and I had a thoroughly great weekend and have made many new friends, thanks for making us so welcome. We already look forward to next years event, even if it means driving into southern territory.

Once again thanks to all.

Having been born and raised my early life in Derby and the Peak District I can only imagine how beautiful it was for you guys, and the sight of so many Ys trunding about.

I am green with envy of you all and look forward to a full write up and photos from the run soon for the website!

I am so glad you all had a good time and I hope that Jerry will at least do another run in the Peaks some time if not next year!

Thanks for your kind comments Chris.

I think everyone had a good time and even though the weather was a little mardy the weekend was great fun I have to agree with Chris about the hotel which was outstanding - by far the best that we have had in five years since we started extending the run to a weekend event.

I cannot understand why it took me so long to arrange a pre-run dinner ( 9 years ) I just did not think laterally that if folks are travelling some distance to a run then they generally stay somewhere over night and have a meal. Well eventually it permeated the grey matter and now is an integral part of the experience!

Chris and Ann's TD is stunning and I am sure that his Y will be of the same standard. We gave him the 'Piston Broke' award for his efforts and to encourage him on his resto project. No-one broke down this year so, as last year, we decided to do something a little different.

So if you are near Hartington do try the Charles Cotton Hotel and I gather that the Devonshire Arms do excellent meals. As Chris metioned CCH had a fine range of beers.

More than likely the venue for the Spring Weekend will be in either Dorset ot Pembrokeshire next year and in 2013 Northumberland on the way to the European Event of the Year in Aviemore which I am sure many of you will be attending.

See you at Silverstone!

All the best
