MG MG Y Type - SPRING RUN 2009
A thanks to Paul for reminding everyone about the Spring Run. If forms part of a Y Weekend starting with a Dinner on the Saturday evening at the Plaisterers Arms in Winchcombe. Full details areon the events page of the website. SUNDAY 10 MAY The Spring Run starts and finishes at Toddington Station a couple of miles north of Winchcombe. This is the HQ of the Gloucester and Warwickshire Railway. Gather from 10.00 am onwards. The run is 35 miles which gives everyone plenty of time to take in the local countryside, enjoy a pub lunch and still have time to meet up afterwards for the self-judge event and a good natter. You can also wallow in nostalgia with those wonderful locomotives, hissing and steaming in the background. You can attend both dates or just one or the other - let me know please. Sincerely Jerry

The Spring Run and Weekend was a great success. We had an excellent Dinner at the Plaisters Arms in Winchcombe attended by 35 owners, partners and a couple of interlopers! The guests were introduced to our new Chairman Peter Vielvoye who made a short speech on his inaugural event! The Sunday event was blessed with a warm and dry ( 2 events in a row!!)day and Y's started turning up from around 9.30 omwards and when Jo and I arrived at just after 10.00 the reserved area was virtually full. The whole carpark was heaving as families turned up for the day and visit Cheltenham Racecourse by steam. 25 Y's (10 YA's, 3 YT's and 12 YB's) attended from as far afield as Lancashire, Yorkshire, Devon, Hampshire, Surrey and London. We also had a number of early and late MG's that included a PA,TA,TC,TD and TF together with a 1933(?) Austin Harley (all the way from the Isle of Wight. Making a total of 31 cars. Sadly Murray and Christine Grainger's YA broke down with regulator problems and had to return to London. They joined us on Saturday in their MGF. Neil Cairn's was let down by Brown and Gammons, who hadn't completed the respray of his YB in time... end of May now. Raymond Savage's YA was enjoying its first run having been flooded up to the door panels during severe weather in Devon last year and then subsequently restored. Unfortunately Alan Chick and Mary couldn't make it as Alan wasrecoering from a detached retina and they were sadly missed. Whilst Andrew and Kathrine Morland (YT and YB owners) had other commitments around an engine rebuild to a P (?) Type. The run of 35 miles was completed without any mishaps and though some cars had to make they way home fairly early the outcome of the self -judging competition was: The NTG Award for YA's TIM GRIGGS beautiful 1951 model UMG 366 The YT Award MIKE & SUE SILK's Cream 1949 example IR 4304 The YB Award KEITH & RITA HERKES excellent 1952 example KAX 872 The Dennis Doubtfire Piston Broke Award NEIL CAIRNS for the non appearance of his YB (thanks to B and G!) A thoroughly weekend with some great people and amongst some wonderful cars and beautiful steam engines. Jerry

Just wanted to say thanks to Jerry, Jo and everyone who organised a great Y Spring Run yesterday. I know from elsewhere how much work goes into such an event, and it's very much appreciated. And thanks to all for UMG 366's second win of the NTG Cup - I think buying the new pair of bonnet corners from Mike and Sue's excellent parts operation must have clinched it! Tim
