MG MG Y Type - REPLACING THE BEAD EDGING ON YT DASH PANELS
I wonder if any of you guys with YTs, or for that matter T types, have replaced the bead edging that wraps around the dash panel. Mine is quite rusty and I would have thought that a simple stainless steel strip with a suitable upstand for the beading edge would achieve this admirably. Moss do provide exactly what I need but a price of around £81,00 (including VAT)is just a rip off! Sincerely Jerry

Hi Jerry, I paid out the money and got mine from Moss, I don't know any other stockists. Cheers Chris

Jerry Do not buy the Moss offering - it will be too short for a Y/T. You need a longer length I beleive. You need 40 inches for the lower and 42 inches for the upper so order 7ft (we dont do metric stuff over here thank you!) and you will have a little to play with. Go 8ft if you are are able as you can always "cut off" and put in the trash what you do not need - you cannont "cut on"! Contact Doug Pelton at http://fromtheframeup.com as I beleive he can probably sell you the length that you need. Yes, shipping from the US will be more expensive than Moss from London (maybe - maybe not!!) but at least if you ask him for the right amount you wont come up short. When you start to fit it, start in the center and put in plenty of cuts/darts as you flex it first convexly then concavely over the humps. Nail it on evenly with plenty of nails into new holes and I am sure Jo will be delighted to help you by holding it so long as you dont hit her fingers- LOL! Paul

The bead edging on my YT was at one time tarnised (rusty?). Ihad them chrome plated. If yours are too bad yo be replated then measure against a TC , they look to me to be the same. Terry

The profile is the same Terry but I think you may find that the Y is a wider screen and therefore the lengths will be longer as the radi are greater. That was why I measured mine. I do not have a TC or TD to compare against though and will be grateful for someone debunking my thoughts or confirming them please so that we are right in future. Paul
