MG MG Y Type - Registration number question.
Friends, I am a YA owner down under who fondly remembers riding in an uncle's Y in England while on holiday there in 1966/67. The place was called Dovercourt, Essex, and it was a dark green Y with rego I think either YMG or UMG and 3 digits. His name was Cyril Campion. Is there any way I can trace the rego number with such scanty information? - I would love to replicate that rego number if I can when we get our own Y Type back on the road out here. Sorry for the strange question, but emotion is a funny thing as we get older! Kind regards, John.

John You could try writing to the DVLA (Driver Vehicle Licencing Centre) in Swansea with that information and asking them if they can provide any information. The DVLA address is DVLA Swansea SA99 1BA Wales UNITED KINGDOM I would also enclose a Stamped and Marked AIRMAIL) return envelope. There is no guarrantee that the will be able to help you, or will even reply ... but you never know. Include your email address in your letter too, and telephone number including international country access number preceeded with a double zero before the country code so that you can be as accessable to them as possible. You could also try calling them on +44 870 240 0010 or faxing them on +44 1792 782793 but writing is probably best, Good luck and happy hunting, Paul

Thank you Paul - I will certainly write to DVLC; I've remembered that including the engine no., chassis etc. details may help. I will post the result in due course just for interst's sake. These old dears (the cars, not DVLC) keep us amused! Regards, John.

DVLA only work on VIN numbers, they cannot trace chassis numbers as short as ours. NC.
