MG MG Y Type - Refit of the Fuel Tank Sender Unit

Gentlemen,
I am presently giving the fuel tank on my YA an internal cleanout and sealing treatment, which involves removal of the sender unit.
When I get to refit this, could anyone recommend a fuelproof sealing compound to use on the gasket?
Thanks in advance,

I used Hematite Red when I did mine and it worked a treat.

If you have not yet discovered it, the screws holding the old one in will often shear off on the heads. Then you are faced with a drill out and tap situation. If this happens go carefully and make sure you have screw bolts with the appropriate fine thread to match your tap before you start.

The sender itself is easy enough to get - Scarborough Faire sell them on eBay and they are the same as the Magnette ZA/ZB/ZBV range except that you have to shorten the arm so do not throw your old one away until you have your new one and can measure the float arms/mount points.

Also a place to watch is the electrical feed connection on the sender. Dont leave it loose or over tighten it as either could cause you grief with leaks at best and a broken electric wire inside at worst.

Other than that ... it is straight forward - LOL!! Until you try refitting the tank which is a busted knuckle job.

Thanks Paul.
I used to use hematite years ago as an apprentice eng for just about everything, but couldn't for the life of me remember what it was called!
I must have had the Y Type angel on my shoulder when I took the Sender unit off - all the screws came out a treat, although v.tight.

Well done.

I fitted a special sender gasket to my TF as supplied by Peter Edney which proved completely fuel tight. The only difference I can see between the TF and Y type sender is that although the former is a switch the external dimensions look similar. Bryan
