MG MG Y Type - Radiator core

Car 1499? I normally drive a YB, which has given 14 years of more or less easy motoring. However in the last eighteen monthe it has decided to fall apart!

The current problem is a collapsed radiator core. ( The car sounds like a coffee percolator and bubbles and steams at around 105 degrees.

I live in Kingston-upon-Thames. Does any one know of a cheap radiator repair firm near Kingston?

Any competent radiator repair firm should be able to help. I had my YB radiator recored a few years back by a local firm - the matrix was not identical to the original but it looks and works fine and cost me about £40 or so.

Hi Ian

I know it isnt terribly near but Kingston Radiator in Southampton will do you a first class job. Perhaps if you can get the radiator to Jack he could run it over there for you and collect it. Meanwhile, it sounds like resurrecting the Sierra again!!

I recently had a recore on a Y radiator done out here in the 'Wild West' and they too did a lovely job - even replaced the original Morris Radiator badges on the radiator for me. Cost about £230 though, but on the other hand this will last another 50 years so at £4.60 a year I cant complain and by the time I am 96 I doubt I will care either!

Good to hear from you

Cheers

Ian,
I had my YB radiator re core done at Kingston Radiators in Shirley, Southampton, I have to say the garage is an old fashioned workshop offering first class service. I will happily assist you if needed just e mail and send your number if I can help or you want any photos of the work done to my Radiator.
