MG MG Y Type - Paint codes
We are about to start spray painting 1950 YA and the original colour is Almond Green (Metallic) Despite having called on 3 paint shops they are not able to tie up any of the codes we have found on this and other sites. Has anyone - preferably Australia - bought any of this colour recently and what was the brand of paint and code. All advise gratefully received.

Gday Elise. You could try posting this question on the TD/TF site as almond green is also a TF colour. At the recent Melbourne concours a friend brought along his recently restored almond green TF. If you contact me direct I can put you in touch with him. Good luck. Matthew Magilton.

Elise If you go to the Technical Centre pages at http://www.mgytypes.org and select Colour Schemes, read through the article and there is a link there to Nexacolor (it is also on the Links Page too) and they are more than helpful with respect to paint formulas. When I was looking for Almond Green Metallic for my car we were able to get there very easily. Since you are after the same colour I still have the formula at home and will dig it out tonight (Pacific Time) and either send it to you or post it here. I used 2-part, or 2-pack paint not cellulouse so the formula will be for that type of paint. Regards Paul PS everyone else - please note new email address - webmast - no er on the end. The old email address of webmaster has been spammed to death!!

Elise As promised Code for 2-Part, or 2-Pack paint is: Undercoat recommended: Code Description Cum. P565-888 Hi Build Filler Fast 1,626 Main Layer: P420-905 Yellow Oxide 105.80 P425-948 H/S Black 209.60 P425-954 H/S Blue Green 288.00 P425-900 H/S Super White 340.90 P425-985 H/S Fine Ali 431.00 P420-975 Bronze Green 535.80 P192-5600 Flip Controller 979.50 The above are PPG codes. Take this to a good auto paint shop and they should be able to make up a good concoction for you. Do use the right undercoat though – very important. For my YA I had 5 litres made and only used about half of it. I am now going to use what is left on my one of my YT restorations. Best wishes, Paul
