MG MG Y Type - Oil filter pipes
Browsing eBay as I do looking for MG Y stuff I happened across these - flexible oil filter hoses! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MGTD-MG-TD-OIL-FILTER-HOSE-SET-EXTERNAL-OIL-FILTER-/280725103374?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item415c85230e The big problem with the standard metal pipes is that over time and engine vibration the solder joints can fatigue and under pressure the oil will find its way out. I had this happen to me one time and had a sudden loss of oil pressure. FOrtunately I was able to pull over and killed the engine immediately so no lasting damage resulted. The offending pipe was resoldered and (touch wood) I have had no problems since. I was wondering if any of you fellow Y owners had bought a set of these and fitted them and would care to comment on them. I have no connection with the seller of these - just an interest in learning about their application in Ys. Paul

Paul, I have a set of these on my TC, they are made by a friend in L.A. They work a treat!! Just like my LEDs!! Terry

Thanks Terry - good to know they are a quality item. Maybe not for the purist ... but a sensible, logical technical progression to avoid the fatiguing problem. Paul

Looks like a very nice job, Paul: thanks for passing this on. I'm going to keep the seller marked on eBay and think seriously about a set for emergencies.

A very smart idea there Tim. Have a gallon of 20/50w oil with you too as if you do fracture a joint it doesnt take long to loose all your oil at 55psi ... speaking from experience! Paul
