MG MG Y Type - New YT Carpet kit does not fit

Just received my Y-tourer carpet kit from NTG in England and the main floor pieces are 1.25 inches narrower at door sill area thus showing plywood floor. There is about 36 inches of plywood exposed. It starts at hinge area with 1/2 inches and increases to 1.25 inches and back to 1/2 inch at door latch. Any reason for this ? As a side note- It came cut for a right hand drive with heel and toe rubber. Mine is a left hand drive.

When you ordered your carpet set did you specify LHD? With the majority of surviving Ys being RHD unless you specified LHD on the order they will have supplied RHD.

As to the other problem, that of width - again, did you specify YT when you ordered? If not they will have sent only Y carpet which can be identified by the fact that the YT pattern should have a square end at the rear seat toe board whereas the Y has a curled toe board and a shaped end to the carpet.

Finally, on the width issue, if you move the carpet all the way over to the outside of the car, is the gap consistent down the middle? If this inside edge is consistent then they have cut it too narrow, If you cannot get the carpet edge all the way over to the outside edge all the way down the car, and the inside edge is straight, then the outside edge has been cut badly. The edge contours should follow the line of the body reasonably closely but not exactly as they are supposed to go under the carpet retaining strips that are sold by the MG Car Club Y Type Register at www.mgytypes.org.

If you send me some pictures of the carpets off line I will soon tell you what the problem is and how best to resolve it.
