MG MG Y Type - New MOT Certificates

I was informed locally that the current style of pre printed MOT Certificates are on the way out, and from October 2011, a plain paper printed version is coming in to force to save....you guessed it money.

In years to come the current MOT paper copies will be as classic as our cars.

Considering the current MOT cetificate is 4 times larger than what we use to have, and thats without the emissions bit. perhaps they should think about the forests that are being cut down.

How long Steve before your government make you all buy new Driver Licenses with a chip on them that stores all your insurance documents, road tax documents and your beloved MOT certificates eliminating paper altogether?

Maybe chopping down a few trees is better than big brother - LOL!

The New MOT Certificates started being issued this week. I have just received one from my local garage and they had to emphasise that it was an MOT certificate so that I didn't throw it away.

They have had to invest in a specially supplied printer, specially supplied ink and specially supplied paper. However, most significantly they appear to have invested in their own special plastic folders to give the document some credibility. Any advisory commments are now included on the MOT, whereas in the past they appeared on a supplementary sheet.

I suspect that as access to the MOT database is available on-line, not only to the authorities but to any prospective purchaser of a car, then there is little need for anything other than a 'white piece of paper with black ink printing' to confirm that the car has been tested. The new document certainly meets this criteria.

Richard is correct in saying that the old MOT certificates, and particulary the hand written ones will soon become as classic as our cars.
