MG MG Y Type - MOT problems

With the 'new' computer based MOT checks now, where the chap has to check the chassis number, Y Types are experiencing problems. This is because the average modren twerp does not know the difference between a body number and a chassis number. They are putting the body number off the brass plate onto the computer, as it is the first thing they see. This plate is on the bulkhead lhs. The CORRECT data is on the MG Car Company plate fitted to the side of the battery box. It will begin Y YT or YA.

The problem arries when the DVLA computer notices that the number on your log book in their records, does not match the one that VOSA have been given, and you get a letter asking for an explanation. So double-check your MOT certificate so it has the CHASSIS NUMBER and not the BODY NUMBER on it. Failure to do this might lose your number plate, and allocate you an age related plate at the cost of £38, plus the requirement for a certificate of the cars age.

Wonderful things computers, ( and blind MOT chaps...)

I had basically the same thing happen in Georgia. My TF number is HDE43/2689. I received notice from the state that I did not have insurance and they were going to pick up my license plate. I had the insurance company send notice (again) to the state, filled out a bunch of forms, and all was well for several months until I again received notice they were going to take my license plate. Seems the state computer does not recognize a / , and had changed it to a 1. I then had to fill out forms leaving the / out of the number with the insurance company and the state. That seemed to make everyone happy. Wonderful technology these days. Larry
