MG MG Y Type - MG Y Brake Master Cylinder
Well, here is my dilemna...I have a new Master Cylinder and both front brake cylinders..Some of my fiends say "brakes is brakes" and any real brake shop can do the install..Others tell me I need an MG guy. Any suggestions...? Thanks for the thoughts

Fairly straight forward operation Marvin, although getting the links in place in the pedal box can be a bit fiddly. Do you have access to a post-lift or a pit to install the m/c? Much easier if you do than installing using a crawler board. Wheel cylinders are easy enough to install too - just do one side at a time, then you can use the other side as a reference for the rebuild. Thorough bleeding afterwards though is essential. If you havent already invested in a set of Whitworth sockets and wrenches - do so. AF will slip and round off the nuts etc. Paul

Forgot to add - to do the m/c it is also easier to remove the driver seat and floor board ... which also means removing the gearbox tunnel front cover. Paul

Paul Thank you for always making things so concise even a novice can understand...I will invest in the tools...Your suggestion on where to find the new master cylinders worked out fine and they treated me well considering they were British (just kidding of course)....Best wishes...Marvin in San Francisco

Look forward to seeing you at GoF West in July. Bring the car along, and if you havent had time to do the work, bring the parts as well and also the wrenches and sockets (I probably wont bring any tools with me) and I will try to do it during the show if you think you will have problems. Also bring some DOT 4 brake fluid! The bleed nuts are 11/32 AF. Paul
