MG MG Y Type - In Search of Trimmers

Hi,

I had always planned to use Wm.Collingburns for the repairs / re-trimming of my seats ,trim panels and headlining, however, I spoke to them today and was told that they don't do Y Types any more.

Has anyone out there recently had re-trimming work undertaken on a Y. If so would you be happy to recommend the quality of work.

Cheers

Does Wm Collinburn still do the essential hidem lace - he was the only person able to do this. If you can please check with him and let me know I'd appreciate it.

Now as to the rest of the car - are you just looking to do the headliner? If so, you can get Union Cloth from other suppliers like NTG or Woolies - both of which are on the Links page at www.mgytypes.org.

The MG Car Club Y Type Register has a great data sheet on fitting your own headlining put together by Jack Murray - very good value at £10 if you can get one from them.

If you need seats retrimming and door trims made, I know it is a long way from Hereford but I used Paul Farmer in Southampton (but then you were looking to Yorkshire UK anyway) for my retrim and he did a superb job. Let me know if you need his details and I will let you have them.

Cheers

Hi Rob

I have recently had my seats on the YT recovered by a chap in Harborne, south Birmingham and he did a brilliant job. I had to source the hides and leather cloth and all the fittings, which was a fascinating experience.

I can provide this info off line and the name of the trimmer. Whether he is prepared to do another Y Type I am unsure. He is also remarkably competitive and covered all the seats and the two door panels in just under 3 weeks.

I know that he is travelling to Cuba in October but if you contact me I can give you some more details.
My address is jerrybirkbeck@btinternet.com and my number is 07855566325

Sincerely

Jerry

Thanks folks...

Paul - I did email you directly re the 'hidem' tape.

Jerry - Thanks for your help...I will be on to the guy tomorrow to see if I can coax him.

Anyone else with Y Type trimming contacts?

Regards

Hi Rob

Yes thanks - good to know Wm.Collingburns still do the hidem trim. Yes it is spendy ... but it is the only source of the original pattern and it is the beautiful finish to a restoration. Sorry I didnt reply yet as I have been busy with another project.

Paul Farmer is still around in Southampton and I will be sending you photos soon.
