MG MG Y Type - Hubcaps for YT
| Does anyone know if there is a source in Australia for new hubcaps for my YT? It is fitted with drilled wheels, possibly replacements from a TD, which may make the hubcaps different. |

| David, are they 15" wheels with punched oval holes? If so then they are TD wheels and you will need the smaller TD hub caps. Baskica will probably have some. Also if they are TD wheels then someone has fitted TD brake drums because the pitch diameter of the Y wheel studs is different to TD or they have done a bodgey job and re-drilled the stud holes? Interesting though I believe Ford stud pattern is the same as Y so they could be Falcon GT 14" 16 slotters? Cheers Richo YT3208 |

| Richard - they are definitely 16" wheels; the holes are 1" diameter, circular and there are 16 holes. Definitely not 14" GT Falcon :0 The old girl would probably have trouble moving that much rubber. The hubcap studs are equidistant at about 8.625" or 220 mm - my maths aren't up to working out the diameter of the circle involved but a rough measure of the wheel suggests around 9.75". The picture at http://people.aapt.net.au/~robleyd/IMAGE0042.jpg will give you an idea of what they are like - it's around 430Kb so would be a bit slow on dialup. Progress of the restoration is at http://people.aapt.net.au/~robleyd/ytype.html if you are interested. David YT3432 (slowly progressing since 1962) |

| David, definitely not TD wheels but I have to say the holes improve the appearance just like the change from early TD's with plain wheels to the later ventilated ones. Possibbly someone had them drilled or they are off some other member of the morris family. I don't have any original wheels for my YT but maybe you could check the spacing of the hub cap lugs with Bob Schapel's YT then you will know if they are the same as YA/YT and at least know what to look for. If you look at Y3208 in Interesting Y's you will understand Y I don't have any 'proper' wheels. From your pics it looks like you are not far from being on the road - good luck and happy motoring.
