MG MG Y Type - HOE 817

Having just purchased a Midget and joined the MGCC I noticed that the back of the MGCC membership card has a picture of HOE 817.

This car was owned by my father in law R Crick in the early 60's, it was black then.

He sold the car to his brother in law P Davies around 66/67, whom we believe purchased a second Y-Type for spares.

I've attached a picture, taken circa 1962/3 in Marple Bridge, Stockport, Cheshire. The children in the picture are my wife's brother and sister. Unfortunately it's the only picture we have or know about.

The Y-Type website shows the current owner is John Harris in Oxfordshire who is looking for more information so I don't know if John will read this or someone can let him know this little snippet of information.

All the best

Thank you for sharing that picture with us Ian. It is certainly a great piece of history on the car! I will expect that John is still very interested in finding out background information on his car and I will be mentioning your posting to him.

Thank you once again.

Here's a little more information and a copy of an email from Paul Davies who owned the car after my father in law.

"Hi Ian & Gerry

Thanks for the photos.

Paul remembered that we recently scanned the attached photo from our slides onto our computer. it doesn't show the number plate but it does show its beautiful lines and Paul driving it. We think it is possibly the only one we have but we will keep looking - the slides are up in the loft so might take a while to locate!

Ryan ( my father in law) had a gold seal engine fitted while he had HOE and Paul hand stitched the upholstery to the rear seats. We bought the car in February 1965 and sold it in July 1968. I think the purchaser was a local business man with an engineering business. The man's name was possibly Tom Crabtree. I am going from memory and it was almost 43 years ago but I have found someone by that name in the 1968 phone book - copy to follow if I can fathom how! Hope this helps.

Love to hear if you find out anything more."

Cheers

Ian
