MG MG Y Type - Headlight Switch Replacement

Looking for some help in replacing the headlight switch. Broken but unable to remove from dash. The baklite handle has a stripped screw. Switch turns both ways but won't come out.

Hi Dan

Bad news - you need to remove the instrument panel to get to it as it has a ring nut on the outside of the switch and this is between the metal backing plate and the wood facia.

The Instrument Panel is held in place by 3 wing nuts and washers so it is not hard to get out of the dash.

Bakelite rarely responds to miracle glue and most epoxy glues. I have here in Washington some great glue though that works good on it. If you want to send me the bits of your handle I will see if I can save it for you. Email me off line if you want my mailing address.

These are identical to ones for the early Morris Minor I think and can be obtained from MM suppliers - if you have any problems I have a spare one

I also have the octagonal switch handle I think....or at least a repaired one plus the screw ...if I can find it you can have it free of charge.
