MG MG Y Type - Greased steering gearbox....oops
I spent the afternoon enjoying myself with a grease gun - something I'm new to. Followed the instructions in the owners hand book but went a bit mad and ended up giving two squirts of the grease gun to the steering rack gear box nipple - the one you are supposed to use for replenishing the oil in it. I know - daft. What ill effects is this likely to have if any? Took the car for a run and it seemed fine.

No harm done as grease is normally 95% oil, just that the oil in it is much lower in viscocity than gear oil. Two shots of grease is an insignificant amount, in my opinion.

The 'soap' used in some grease can affect some type of plastic/rubber gaiters. It 'melts' them. Grease is just an oil in a thickener. NC.
