MG MG Y Type - Funny Story ( mot)
| I took my YB for its annual Mot today. I arrived early so locked up the car and went into the waiting room to read a paper. The lad who has been checking my car now for a few years bounced out of the workshop, and took my keys. I pointed out the door key was different to the ignition key. He went out, got into it, and drove the car onto the pit in the Mot area. He carried out a lghts/semaphor/horn check with a mate watching. He left the engine running and got out to do more checks. I read the paper, but upon looking up saw that the two fitters were huddled by the drivers door. I wondered if they had scratched the car or something. Anyway, the Mot lad came out to me and asked, " Does this car have central locking?" I replied it was far too old for that, ( 1952) and asked why. He replied the drivers door was locked, the engine running, the keys in the ignition, and he could not get in! Luckily an old 'FS' key was found, and the door opened. What he had done was to unlock the door, remove the key, but found it had turned a little and would not come out. But as he by now had the door open, he twisted the key out and got in to start the car. He had in fact RE-LOCKED the door handle. So when he got out ( the interior door handle on the driver's door does not 'lock') and let the door slam, he had locked himself out. The whole garage workshop were laughing, as the Mot man had made their day. |

| This is not so much a funny story but the different attitude of MOT Testing stations.Over the years I have used two different ones and the same on for the last five years. At both locations they are happy for me to drive the vehicle on to the ramp and then sit in it to work the panel instruments, brakes etc.It saves them time having to ask me before hand what to do with the various knobs etc. Is this standard practice as I recall that when I had a YA the testers were more than happy for me to operate everything - how otherwise would they have tested the headlamp/sidelamp switch!
