MG MG Y Type - Clutch rod seems too short?

I have a YB with a YA engine so it is the later YB gearbox (the clutch cross shaft is wider at 3/4 rather than 5/8 inch as per YA)but my engine has a 7 1/4 in clutch plate to suit the earlier flywheel rather than the later 8 in clutch/flywheel arrangement. In order to be able to get the correct clutch adjustment I found that I had to lengthen the clutch rod by just under an inch - has anyone else had this problem? It seems if you have a 7 1/4 in clutch fitted and you have a YB gearbox the clutch rod (fitted to the YB) is not long enough.This only seems to happen if you have a YA engine/flywheel with a YB gearbox- maybe Neil Cairns may be able to comment or am I missing something here??
