MG MG Y Type - Brooklands Test Hill
| Mucked up Brooklands Test Hill AGAIN yesterday! Two years ago it took me until my second attempt to work out that with my daughter and I in the YT I needed to change up to second to get up briskly without the revs going through the roof. Then yesterday I invited my Uncle to join us going up the hill (he works as a volunteer at Brooklands) and the extra weight made much more difference than I thought it would. On our first attempt I changed up to second as I had done before only to come to a grinding halt about three quarters of the way up! We then had to roll all the way back down to the bottom before having another crack at it - not at all embarrassing! Even on the re-try it popped out of first gear just before the top. I slammed it back in and just about had enough momentum to reach the summit. Last attempt was fine - kept it in first, held the stick in place and slowly increased the throttle in line with the increasing gradient to keep the revs at about 4000. Very slow, very undramatic but the only way to tackle it and ensure a run free from major embarrassment. Next time I'll force my wife and youngest daughter to join us. See you all at the Spring Run weekend. Cheers, Saul. |
