MG MG Y Type - Broken throttle return spring
For at least the third time in 10 years the return spring on the YA throttle broke yesterday, resulting yet agion in full thorttle acceleration while the pedal was immobile on the floor! This is indeed every bit as exciting as it sounds As we were climbing the pass at Glencoe (during the 350 mile journey home) during a peak tourist day we found a niche between the tour buses to scream to a halt before daring to breathe out again. Apart from trimming/replacing the spring, is there a trick/prevention which may help keep this from adding to the list of 'special characteristics' so endearing of the Y's? Many thanks, Andrew PS Made it home OK after a 880 mile shake down tour before the Spring Run next month; come to think of it, if Jerry wants us to organise a more extreme version of the Run, just let Arlene or me know!

Andrew, where are you getting your springs from to replace them - it is possible that they are under tensile strength. Also, where abouts on the spring are they breaking? Is it always the same place? Paul

Andrew old chap, I have a big box of springs of all types to delight even your eye so if you like I can bring a Spring collection to the Spring Run and you can chose one that's like the one I use and works a treat. Ted
