MG MG Y Type - brake light switch
I'm rewiring my YB and now I can't connect the new wire to the brakelight switch. I've already removed the floor so I can see the pedalbox and I've opened the pedalbox on the leftside. But I can't get there with a screwdriver to unplug the old wires. Please can someone tel me how to do this?

Have you tried a short stubby screwdriver? It is difficult to get the turn force on because of the access so what I would do is having got a screw driver of the right blade size, put the blade of the screwdriver into the head of the screw and then clamp a set of vice grips to the barrel of the screwdriveras far over to the left as you can and then hold the screwdriver into the head of the screw with your left hand providing pressure to keep the blade in the head and then with your other hand use the vice grips to turn the screwdriver. You may need the assistance of a friend to hold the wires in place while you do this though - it is a three handed process! Good luck. Paul

Hi Klaas, We talked about this on the phone and I'm glad you found this forum. I wasn't able to give assistence because on my YA the PO (previous owner) fitted a hydraulic switch in the brake line. Does anybody know the parts required? Paul, One wonders how they did this in the factory?

Morning Gentlemen The factory would have fitted the original loom in much the same way as described unless the wiring loom for the YB (with which I am not overly familiar with I have to say) has "flying tails" or "pig tails" in which case the flying leads would have been attached at a component supplier and then the flying leads would simply be a push fit for the wiring crew at Abingdon. Tools required - short stubby screwdriver, a set of vice grips. Parts required - switch and two leads. Skills or special requirements - operator must have 3 hands! Take care, Paul
