MG MG Y Type - Beware scams

I recently advertised on the MGYTypes site for seats for my YB. I received a number of replies one of which was sound and we did a good deal. One other was from a Phil Brown of Spain. After a number of strangely written e.mails Phil eventually sent me a photogrpah of his YB which he is breaking and from which I could purchase any spares of my choice. I believe the car the car in question YB UMG 665 still resides in Hampshire UK and may belong to Geoffrey Wilson who will no doubt be surprised when I turn up to remove the seats and any other parts I fancy (in fact I think it easier to take the whole car!).
Firstly thanks to Jack Murray who quickly traced UMG665 and confirmed my cynical misbelief in miracles from Spain, and finally but most important, members should be aware of this kind of scam if they do advertise on our web site. Phil Waltham, YB KMJ539.

Hi folks, further developments. In response to my enquiry if the whole car UMG655 is for sale Phil Brown has offered it to me complete for 2500 Euros. Not bad really and apologies to Geof. Wilson if his clearly cherished vehicle has been undervalued. Put it down to my negotiating skills Geof! Best regards, Phil Waltham.

I had a wanted ad for a Y Type on the Register website for many months. I received two offers similar to this. The most blatent scammer sent me a set of photographs of an apparently well restored car. Fortunately, during my search for a car I had already seen the same photographs on a dealers website of a cat that he had sold previously. The email was plausible and included a telephone number and a postcode, but they did not correspond. The telephone number was a Hampshire one and the postcode, revealed by Google Earth, was an industrial estate in Tower Hamlets! The scammer wanted a deposit of £5000 sent by Western Union money transfer before he would tell me where the car was located. Needless to say, I did not pursue the car. It does show the need for extreme caution on the internet.
