MG MG Y Type - 2012 sees the Y Types 65th Birthday
As I guess many of you are aware the Y Type celebrates the 65th Anniversary of its launch in March 2012. It is an event that I think we should celebrate especially as much of the classic car press is focusing on the 50th anniversary of the MGB. I have spoken to Chris Seaward at the MG Car Club at some length about this and he has agreed to have a Y presence at MG Live in June and on the MGCC Stand at the NEC in November 2012. I am looking for any ideas or themes that you guys might be willing to suggest. Please send them to me either by e-mail (jerrybirkbeck@btinternet.com) or by including them on the Bulletin Board. All the best Jerry

Jerry, Could it be possible to organise a gathering of cars in Abingdon with as many Y Types vehicles as possible for a photo shoot, perhaps each car could be set up to read a "65 Y Type Years" or something similar and aerial shot from above of all the cars. Perhaps an approach to the MG Car Co. could be made to see if they had a budget to assist with organising funds for owners further afield to travel to the event, by contributing to fuel/or accomodation costs, therefore easing the burden on our relatively Northern owners in making the sacrafice of travelling to Abingdon for the event. The trade off for the sponsorship is MG Car Co. could use the gathering as a marketing tool (Photo shoot) for their latest/future MG Models. What better advertisement could MG have than lots of 65 year old Y Types still going strong today. Richard

That's an interesting idea and I'll have a word with Chris Seaward about it. Though I guess the shot would need to be taken at HQ otherwise there could be significant problems if it was to be in the centre of Abingdon. However, I will contact the Abingdon Works Centre for their thoughts on this. Whilst I will certainly mention to Chris about MGCC sponsorship of such an event. I do think it is likely that the reponse would be on the lines of some well known animals flying! Thanks Jerry
