MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Wiper arm removal
Sprite IV 1968 I'm showing myself up here I think, but I'm struggling to remove the wiper arms from their spindles. The arms aren't pushing onto the glass any more. I thought they usually just sort of clipped on to the splines with a springy locating thing. I don't want to try too much force in case I break anything. Might they have corroded on? Mark

Most Spridgets have a screw which tightens a clamp onto the spindle. You normally have to undo the screw a couple of turns and then give it a tap to release the clamp.

Cheers Dave, That was quick. I'll have a better look, before I pull the scuttle off in my hand! Ta, Mark

| hope this scans ok, from my owners Handbook download it to increase it's size on your computer ignore crossed out bits (not on my car) if the arms have to come off the spindles then spray releasing fluid and a very large blade screwer can help but be careful as the spindle is very soft material also you'd have this information and loads more if you spend £8 on an owners Handbook (Ref: 0057) http://www.mgocshop.co.uk/catalog/Online_Catalogue_Handbooks_5.html

Thnks again for the help. Nigel, I didn't realise that handbooks were that informative. Certainly not like nowadays. I'll be ordering one on Monday. Cheers Mark

I think they're totally invaluable to potential and new owners and can even sometimes remind long term owners of a few things just seen your other thread I think you'll have to peg or weight your new 'garage' down - one good curry and it could be part of your neighbour's estate :) PS be very careful if the wiper arms or blades are new as the edges can be razor sharp and you'll be wondering where the red paint came from
