MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Where to Cut?

Well it was a good fight but I finally won and got the seal that goes between the windscreen and the body on to the windscreen frame.

I now find myself with a dilemma. I need to cut the windscreen seal down as it is slightly too long. Does anyone have any experience of cutting these seals down to fit as I don't want to get it wrong and live with a leaking seal.

To be specific should I cut the seal down to the line of the frame or leave it slightly long so it can be compressed by the windscreen pillars?

First, starting at center, attempt to compress the seal toward the center. Work both sides that way; it is very common to stretch the deal somewhat as you install it. Then it creeps back and is too short after you cut it. Annoying! Then leave it as much too long as you can and still get it together.
