MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Starting/batter probs

hi,

My MG has recently had the fuse box cleaned up, now open starting...it don't start! The batter seems dead and hardly turns the starter motor. When jumped using leads it eventually starts, after running it warm and switching off, it then won't start, so has to be jumped.

any ideas? Alternator? poor earth?

If it jump starts then stater circuit sounds ok. So more likely flat batrery from either stuffed battery or not charging. Do you have a multimeter? If so with engine running and revs up to about 2000 what's the battery voltage? It should be about 14.5 volts. Turn lights on and check it stays up there. If not charge circuit has a problem. alt, reg, blown fuse or wiring. Perhaps something didn't go back on the fuse box? If charge rate is ok it may be battery. Try that for starters.
