MG Midget and Sprite Technical - smith dial lights
I was just wondering if anyone had done something to make smith dial lights any brighter and for some odd reason my petrol guage is a different colour to the other dials which is annoying me. i know you can get leds and so on these days so i didnt know if anyone made a frame around the dial and had serval leds lighting it up possible with the oil/water and petrol but not sure for speedo rev counter.

D would help if you could get your profile up dails can be dim but you should be able to see them remove the fuses and clean them, leave them out until you've finished the rest of this clean all connections, check for poor wires and connections repair and/or replace and do same to light switch and panel light switch connections by taking the switches out, note wire colours and their positions spray inside switches with electric contact cleaner pull bulb holders out and clean them and bulbs replace blacked bulbs they might then just be a bit less dim but dails have rust replacing their reflective paint

D- Nigel's suggestions are highly appropriate and should be followed as a preliminary to my suggestion. The simplest, cheapest, and surprisingly effective method is to paint the inside of your instrument nacelles with a nice gloss white paint. It'll reflect more of the light that's generated by the bulbs onto the faces of your gauges.

A while back I ordered a set of instrument lights from Moss that are a slightly higher wattage, and just enough brighter to really make a difference. I've been really pleased with the result, as the gauges are now easily readable at night. I don't know if Moss UK stock them. -:G:-

Check they are the 2.2w bulbs as mine had smaller ones in also there are 5w bulbs available which obviously would be brighter but could need a bigger fuse. http://www.amazon.co.uk/208-12v-Edison-Screw-Bulbs/dp/B0028SGJCU
