MG Midget and Sprite Technical - replacing seat squabs

A friend of mine (who hasn't bucked up courage to post here yet) is thinking about refurbishing his early Mk 3 Sprite / 1098 bucket-style seats, but has been advised by a local trimming company (who I've also used in the past) to think carefully about replacing the seat squabs as he could end up with his eyeline above the windscreen. Has anyone else had this issue after new foam went in?

Incidentally he's not a giant, probably about 5'10 or 5'11 like me!

Nop.
Replaced them on my 66 non bucket seat mkII and finaly could look over the wheel ;)

It is an easy DIY job and if you order the squabs you can test how high you will end up without touching the current squabs

Actually he is 6'1 it transpires... does an extra 2" make a difference?

The early 1098 buckets in my car were not at all saggy, but my wife who is only 4ft 10in tall couldn't see over the scuttle so I fitted MGF seats and now she can. The F seats didn't push me up much higher (I'm 5ft 9in) so I wouldn't think that replacing the squab foam on the original buckets would make too much difference. A freind of mine who has a mk2 Sprite has refurbed the seats and he's 6ft 2in and he's had no problems.

the seats were perfectly positioned for normal driving vision when the cars were brand new, so it sounds like you need a trimmer who can rebuild using OEM specification materials.

I found the advantages of not getting a numb ar*e sitting on a rigid baseplate far outweighed the extra breeziness of sitting higher.
