MG Midget and Sprite Technical - rear end drips

Hi all, I have a question. I have had the rear end out of my car for a week now. It is clean and ready for a paint job. I took the drums off to prep for paint, and now there is a puddle of oil on the floor at each end of of the rear. It's not brake fluid, it is gear lube. Do I need seals or is this normal? It didn't leak until I took the drums off.

the drums help to hold the ends of the half shafts against the hubs and seal the oil in

when you replace the drums it should stop leaking

Agree with Norm.

Also - make sure axle not over-filled; and axle level on stands... and 1/2-shaft retaining screw is tight.
