MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Pin through leaf spring?

Hi all.

I had to cut the pin/bolt that fits through the middle of the rear leaf spring, and pinches the spring pads into position. Does anyone know where I can buy replacements? I've looked at a couple of the obvious suppliers but they don't seem to list it as a separate part to the spring itself.

Thanks in advance,
Dave

www.owensprings.co.uk possibly. Haven't tried them but their website looks useful.

I replaced it with an M8 socket cap screw and a stack of washers the same diameter as the original screw. Dunno if this will work as I haven't then put the spring back on the axle, might have to invest in a proper screw at a later date.

Cheers,

Thanks Malcolm.
That's certainly an idea, and Owen Springs definitely looks like one to bookmark. I need to have a closer look at what I cut off and think about how to work around it.

If I remember rightly the hole in the leaves is 5/16ths (7.94 mm) so an M8 will go through, and the head is 5/8ths (15.88 mm) diameter so M8 washers of 16 mm diameter are about the right size to stack under the bolt and locate the spring.

This is, all in theory, like I said, never tried putting the springs back on the axle and never heard of anyone else doing it this way.

If it works, let me know! ;-)

Well I made a solution today.
Unfortunately it involved persuading a friend to make up some spacers on the lathe, to match the one that fits on the bottom of the usual pin. Then got some 5/16th threaded rod with nylocs on each end.
