MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Pierce Alloy Head
| Hi Guys, I'm about to fit the Pierce alloy head to my A-series and I have a few questions that I need answers to. Hopefully some of you will have experience in the matter. 1. Head torque. My concern is that the standard torque settings are too high for an aluminium head. Does anyone have actual experience with these over the long term? 2. Secondly, the original rocker shaft is buggered as usual. Mini mania have an uprated shaft at a good price but I'm under the impression that the shaft locating screw is shifted to the second rocker post rather than the original position. This would mean that the first post has to be moved to the second position and a new post with an oil supply hole fitted to the first position to ensure oil supply to the rockers. Can anyone confirm or deny this? Apologies if this is redundant or Iv'e already asked and forgotten but I haven't found any similar threads, Yours in web based confusion, Jeff.

| Why are you using an aluminum head? Could you not find a good original unit? Torque would be based on the fasteners used not the head. However, aluminum might require re-torque sooner. I have no idea about the rocker shaft. |

| Replacement rocker shafts these days usually have the both options, so they can be fitted to early or late engines. If you have the locating screw on no 1 pillar, I'm guessing that you have the Cooper S type forged rockers. Do you also have the non-vac distributor? |

| The advantage of the Pierce head is that it is massivly lighter than the cast iron head and so who wants an iron head? Hi Jeff, nice car maybe you need a set of silicone ORANGE radiator hoses to go with it, assuming its got a downflow radiator???? |
