MG Midget and Sprite Technical - MG Midget 1500 1977 Engine Issus
Having removed my Engine to paint it and the Engine bay, I have reinstalled every thing, and tired to restart, With the following problem, engine fires buts run very ruff and only for about 20-30 seconds. It sounds like its back firing through one of the Carbs, also the engine Rev's up to very high rev's by it's self, and then cuts out, if I try to turn off buy the key its runs for a minute or two then cuts out. When the engine was removed the Carbs were taken of along with the dizzy, I was very careful to number the plug leads and mark the position of the rota arm before removing the dizzy. This is my first resto so please forgive me if I have done something very silly. Any advice would be great.

Ignition timing 180deg out? When the rotor is at post of no1 are valves 1&2 both shut?
Bob T
No sure on the valve positions but will check all the timing sequence tomorrow, if the timing is as you suspect 180 degrees out, am I right in thinking if I swap the plug lead on one and four around, and two and three around, then she should run Ok. Thanks

You say that you "marked the position of the rotor arm". Did you also mark the position of the dizzy body in relation to the clamp?
Guy
Hi Guy no, I dint I think this is when I have probably gone wrong.

Firing order set clockwise (incorrect) vs. anti-clockwise (correct)?
