MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Loose Fuel Tank Stud
I noticed that one of my fuel tank mounting bolts is loose. The stud that comes through the boot floor (I think) seems to be lose, I cannot find it's origin above (guessing it is in the crossmember that I cannot access), any ideas on how to sort this out? Thanks, -- Josh

the studs are all visible on the boot floor - v thin flat round heads, easy to miss. You can fix it with a dab of weld, or replace with a nut and bolt.

Thanks for the quick response David. Really, guess I will have to look harder tomorrow! Thanks again, -- Josh

Is it a 1500? Might be under one of the reinforcements.

Yes, it is a 1500. Couldn't see them when I looked, but it was quite dark. -- Josh

You can still all the studs on a 1500. Steve

Great! Will head over to the lock-up in a little bit and try to sort it out. I keep making the mistake of trying to fix things after dark, and being unable to see this kind of stuff. -- Josh

Turns out that the other end of this stud is within a bit of reinforcement. You can just see it through a small hole in the side, but it is pretty hard to hold it down hard enough to tighten the nut. For the time being I grabbed the end of the thread with some locking pliers and tightened it up, but I will at some stage have to cut that off and somehow get a bolt in. Cheers, -- Josh
