MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Kingpin sealing rings
| I should have predicted that I would forget how to re-assemble things, and taken more photos, but, of course, I didn't. So, my question is thus: there are two sealing rings fitted to the upright, to keep the grease in the kingpin (presumably), but I've forgotten exactly which orifice they fit into, top, middle, or bottom? I've bought new rings, and I think the answer is middle and bottom. Here's a couple of photos to show what I mean...

| Above image shows the bottom and top. Below image shows middle. Thanks in advance of a reminder... :-) DH2

| There should be a square-section seal at the bottom of the dust tube (middle) and an O-ring at the bottom. |

| That aligns with the parts I have - one square, one round section. Presumably the dust tube just sits in the top and gently weeps? Thanks. |

| The square section oring goes on the lower end of the tube, as stated. Most of us who do this for a living use an RTV silicone instead, and at both ends of the tube. Just put a dab at each end, then rotate the tube and you're done. The orings can be fiddly to fit, and aren't terribly effective. Peter C |

| Thread resurrection. Similar question. I got round to fitting the kingpin lower fulcrum joint together earlier - the cork gaskets - how tight a fit are they supposed to be? I have new ones fitted, one was way out, but I packed behind it with a rubber washer made from inner tube. DH2 |

| How do you mean 'one was way out'? |

| I mean its ID is too large, and it is too thin, for the bit of tube in the wishbone that it sits over. So it's not really doing anything, hence packing it out behind to effectively make it thicker (the ID issue is less critical as I see it). Just wondering how tight a seal against the bottom of the kingpin I am looking for? I accept that it will lose grease, but I'd rather not lose all of it in no time. DH2 |

| Ideally, it should be slightly under compression. I think it was Guy that suggested using a slice of pipe insulation instead of the cork. |
