MG Midget and Sprite Technical - How does the Lucas RB340 work?

I read a wonderful 6 part series of articles on the RB 106 featured in some 2008 issues of mascot (wish I could get in touch with John E. Davies who wrote them and ask him if I could repost those on my website) and was curious how the RB340 works. I know that the 106 combines voltage and current regulation into one "coil" whereas the RB 340 separates the current regulation from the voltage regulation. I am unclear exactly how it manages to do so. The reason I ask is that I am considering updating my RB340 in a similar manner to how Dr. Hugo Holden updated his RB106 in his Triumph using a hall effect device of his own design.

SA - There is a description on Page 62 of Classic British Car Electrical Systems by Rick Astley. It is one of the Veloce The Essential Manuals. Cheers - Dave

Past copies of Mascot are available to download in the MASC members area, it's worth joining simply to get access to those!!

Seth is a memeber and he knows how to contact the editor (ME!). As usual a simple request would get results.
Seth, I'll contact John and ask him.
Seth please resist the temptation to reproduce any part of Mascot on your website without prior consent.

Correction. I am a former member. I haven't payed up for a few years, and don't see a reason to. Gary, I am not sure that asking you would be sufficiant since you didnt write those articles, John E. Davies did. I don't think you can give permission on his behalf any more than Steve Jobs can give me permission to post the source code for windows. I tried the email but its dead.

Thanks david, i'll look it up.

Gary put >>Seth, I'll contact John and ask him.<<

Gary did NOT put - I think I can give permission on his behalf

Seth, Gary might have a contact for John you don't so why not see if Gary is able to help you before you dismiss him, just a thought

Srry, missed that part about asking john. I am trying to ask permission here

The arrogance of this fellow is amazing…

And he just doesn't seem to get it, obviously it didn't get appreciated.

I really don't know why people bother.

The Voltage regulator is not a difficult piece of kit to understand so why does he not simply write his own article and begin the extremely long journey of actually becoming a so called Guru.

Must agree he is either extremely arrogant or is simply suffering from Adolessence?

Instead of posting comments like that bill you could do something a lot better with your time. You don't have to post or reply. I ask a question, and david gave me a nice tip. You don't like me? Fine. I don't care, its your problem not mine. Just stay out of it ok?

Guess we were right then

Right about what?

think we were talking about you, not to you...
