MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Gear Lever fit and operation
My gearbox - rib case type with the later gears - has a tailshaft casing and gear lever extension clearly taken from from other boxes, and it won't engage top gear 100% right. When in a gear there seems to be a lot of play in the gear lever although it has the spring loaded plastic plunger where it engages. Can anyhone tell me if there are any different gear levers and/or extension types please? Thanks Mike St Paer

There are several different types of lever and remote housings. Morris Minor and A35 levers have a greater distance between the pivot ball and the smaller ball on the end of the lever. If you try to use a Spridget lever on this type of remote, you will not get enough throw. There may also be variations between early and late Spridget levers and remotes. Basicly, if you don't have the right combination, it won't work well.

Quick check on part numbers of the remote housing... 1275 with reverse light switch - 22G671 1275 without " " " - 22A480 Morris Minor - 2A3411 I can't find any part numbers for earlier 948 or 1098 Spridget parts. The number is cast into the lefthand side of the housing, a couple of inches forward of the gearlever. You may be able to see it with the 'box in situ, with the cover/gaiter removed.

Hi Dave, many thanks, I will check and we what I have got. I suspect that it will turn out to be an internal problem, I'm just being idle and trying the options befor I take the box out. Cheers, Mike St Paer
