MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Front brakes binding

Having read every archived thread on front brakes that I can find, I am still unsure if my problem is answered.

I decided to upgrade to Goodridge stainless steel brake hoses as my rubber ones were looking a little worse for wear. At the same time I had the calipers off for a coat of paint and bought new pads (Classic Gold premium ceramic from Moss).

Finally got around to refitting the calipers today and the first problem I came across was the new front pads not fitting. The pistons were fully depressed and the pads appeared to be wider than the shortest distance between the actual caliper and the disc. Interestingly these pads came with an anti-squeal shim built on, and it appears that they would fit with this removed. Currently I'm back to using my old pads (no anti-squeal shim), which has thrown up a new problem.

With everything set up, I bled the lines (traditional tube in jar with brake fluid method) and have achieved a beautifully hard pedal. However, the pads are now binding and do so each time I reset the pistons and re-bleed. I had no problems prior to doing these changes!

Any ideas appreciated.

Forgot to add, I have wedged to brake pedal down at maximum travel as recommended in a couple of threads so will see how that is tomorrow morning.
