MG Midget and Sprite Technical - FAO rachmacb

Hi Rachel

A while ago you mentioned a garage in Tamworth that you take your car to. I need to have mine looked at quite urgently and am really struggling to find anyone decent in Shropshire, so wondered if you could let me have the name and/or phone number please? I have had a look on here and on the MGOC forum but couldn't find which one it is.

Many Thanks

Jue, while you're waiting for Rachel to drop by (which won't be long I know) why don't you give Westgate Classics a ring (01922 458526). They are near J10 of the M6. It's a new company started by Fuzz Townsend who's one of the technical bods from Practical Classics mag.

If you do try them, let all know what kind of service you get..

Thanks very much. I'll definitely let you all know how I get on. Second and third opinions would be very welcome so that's a great help. I'll give them a call on Monday. Have already been to MCR in Ombersley - gearbox, clutch and now possibly major engine problem so want to get as much advice and feedback as possible before I make any expensive decisions.

Cheers

I think rach is racing out of town this weekend... she got a ride in a pretty cherry racer that she is looking forward too thrashing it about.

Hi,
Dependant on how you will be dealing with the issues, i.e take whole car to a garage or remove engine etc and take that to a garage.

If its the latter, for gearbox issues I would highly recommend Ken at Klassik Transmissions in Wolverhampton: http://www.klassiktrans.co.uk/

He reconditioned my gearbox (very noisy and jumping out of gear) in roughly a week and was very reasonably priced.

Thanks

Thanks Mark. That's another useful contact. I really don't know what to do for the best at the moment - the last couple of days have been a bloody nightmare tbh. I'll start a new thread as others may have an idea but won't necesarily look in here as it's for Rach.

I've used Union St Garage in Bishops Castle a few times, friendly lot, know what they're doing and also reasonably priced.

LOL loads of people called Rach!!!! :)

Seriously, Prop was right, I was out all weekend sorting out cars and at the Lincs practise.

There are two garages at Drayton Bassett (down past the fair thingy!) - one of them is called M.R.S Classics, and the other one is across the yard (and I can't remember their name off the top of my head). Both are pretty good - but if you've found somewhere else in the meantime - that just shows how good the BBS is ;)

Hope that helps and you get your car sorted.
