MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Engine run without oil filler cap
Hi, like a idiot I have been out to a show today, topped my oil up last night and for some reason forgot to replace the oil filler cap, I headed out early this morning and have done 150 mile round trip (mostly motorway and dual carrigeway). The engine has lost some oil and I noticed no difference in the running of the car but is this likely to have caused any damage (other than the ejected oil under the bonnet) Thanks Mark

No damage if you still have enough oil to cover the bottom limit on the stick. I can only imagine the look of your underbonnet!

You should be fine. As has been said, bet you might have a clean up job ahead of you.

Thanks, yes the oil is still reading ok on the dipstick. I imagine that after the clean up there will be oil on the other dipstick!!

dawn dish soap mixed with hot water in a garden pump up sprayer is how I cleaned it up when I did the same thing along with aerosoles engine degreaser just make sure the engine is cold when you wash it
