MG Midget and Sprite Technical - dripping under car but not from engine or diff

I seem to have got some oil leaking from the centre tunnel their is a a peice of metal covering the prop shaft and it seems to be leaking from the diff end did first think it was the diff just wondering if anyone else has had this problem mabye comming from gearbox and is it a big fix if its just the gasket that needs replacing.

If it is engine oil per Nigel's test then it sounds like the rear seal on the gearbox. That seal slips over the back of the housing where the prop shaft goes and is swagged into a grove at the back of the housing. Replacing the seal itself isn't difficult but you have to pull the engine/gearbox out to get at it. The back end of the gearbox sits too far behind the shift lever opening to get at any other way.

both me and my dad think its engine oil the diff does have drops of oil on the bottom of it but doesnt seem to drip or leak that much. but for it to come from the tunnel it would seem like engine oil from the gearbox.
