MG Midget and Sprite Technical - diff help
Hi All, I recently bought what I thought was Sprite 4.2 crown wheel and pinnion. It isnt. Its bigger and I wondered if it was any other type of MG. Stamped into the pinnion is 9 x38 CF 23 10 68 and the crown wheel MGG 5 10 68. The crown wheel has 8 bolt holes and is 6.8 inch in diameter. Does this ring a bell with any one. Many thanks.

S- The ratio is 4.22:1. The pinion was made on the 23rd day of the 10th month (October) of 1968, and the crownwheel on the 5th day of the 10th month (October) of 1968. I'm unsure as to the meaning of the "CF' and "MGG" markings. These may be personal identification marks of approval by quality control inspectors, but, then again, may signify something else, such as a point of manufacturing origin. The Hardy Spicer rear axles used components sourced from Spicer's plants in both the USA and the UK.

Hi Simon, Bigger thicker or bigger diameter?
Daniel Thirteen-Twelve
Daniel - bigger diameter, as the Mowog is 6.5 inch. SImon - a bit of searching suggests Saab V4, Porsche 911 (4 speed), Ford (unsure which but NOT English axle) and Fiat 500 as possibles. Edit- not the Fiat as that is a 6-bolt.
