MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Clutch woes

For some time now the car has been dogged by occasional clutch judder on take off. The final straw was that the clutch failed to disengage cleanly and reverse was impossible to engage without stopping the engine.

All is now revealed - on stripping the clutch assembly it was found that one of the linings had sheared all it's rivets and had detached itself from the driven plate.

I've never seen that before.

Shoddy manufacturing probably. Getting fairly common these days especially with off shore work.
