MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Bolt through anti-rollbar support
Dear all, have been thinking about the issue with larger antiroll bars and the lack of strength in the mounting point on the chassis. I know people weld in extra supports, but I was wondering whether another option would be to use bolts that come all the way through the chassis rail? Seems like a simple solution and should be more than strong enough.. What do you all think? tim

To be really effective, you'd have to fit crush tubes or else the chassis rails could potentially collapse a bit as the bolts are tightened

Yep do it but as Paul points out you need tubes through th rails There is a problem if I recall with the rear bolts crashing into the radiator support bracket or something ,but because you are drilling new holes you can relocate a little bit to get them to fit Well worth the effort Willy

I did this when my nearside support rusted, and came adrift, due to radiator antifreeze overflow that rotted it. I just stuck a suitably sized metal plate over the hole in the bottom of the chassis, and held it all in place using tubes to stop it crushing the chassis member. It was like that for about a year, until I bought an extension repair member, and borrowed a MIG and did what I thought was the more correct and better repair. But when I did the "correct" repair my temp fix with the through bolts was still holding fine, and if I had not already bought the repair extension, I might not have bothered to change it. I was still only using the standard roll bar though, so this might not apply.
