MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Bleedin' brakes
So couldn't find anything on the archive on this subject. I'm about to bleed the brakes, my drivers handbook says get DOT 3, and then quotes very specific SAE and boiling point stuff. The MGOC are only selling DOT 4 Castrol stuff... So what do people use? Also, does anyone have any special tips for bleeding?

Use dot4 -it is the most used fluid so best available -it is the best preforming fluid Yes it eats away your paint but that just means you have to be carefull when filling. Bleeding can be a bit of a pain as you can easly trap air just above the MC in the bend down. Do it methodicly rear first. If you get no more bubles there go to the front If the pedal keeps feeling spongy drive a few days and then try again. Big chance you have pushed the buble down to an easyer place to bleed.

Special tip for bleeding. Don't lose too much blood, as you'll pass out. :) Seriously though. Start on the longest run first and work to the shortest. If you have it, use a different colour fluid so you can see when you've changed all the fluid. (If that's what you are wanting to do, other than just removing air). Also, Dot3 is probably past it's sell by date now as I understand it. And if you have it in a plastic container, and it's Dot 3, then it's probably absorbed water by now. So get Dot 4 in a metal can if you able to.
