MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Anyone had problems with 123 dizzy?

Hi,
I was driving home last night when the tacho went mad. The needle was jumping all over the place, then the misfire started and then it got so bad that I had to pull over. The engine cut out. I managed to start it after a minute or so and it ticked over nicely. I popped the bonnet but in the dark I could not see anything wrong.
I thought I would try to limp home but as I pulled away it cut out and would not start again.
I got my wife to tow me home, so the car is now safe in the garage.
I have a new coil and 123 tune dizzy which up to now have been faultless.
I have not had time to look at the car today.
My question is has anyone had any issues with the 123?
Now I am not sure yet if it is the dizzy, I will fit the old one in tomorrow and see what happens.
I am thinking that if I am getting 12volts at the coil and the earths are ok the only things that could be causing the problem are the coil (which is about a year old) or the dizzy. How do I test the coil?
Thanks for your help.
