MG Midget and Sprite Technical - AHA8317 Heater Control

Hi, I have a problem with the heater control. If I pull the control out, the inline fuse blows. I think it is a problem internal to the switch control.

I want to replace this unit, but it seems that replacement parts are no longer available. Has anybody got one of has any ideas?

Thanks
P Ottewell

Unless you can repair it you'll need to keep it and wire in a seperate switch

cutting back and sealing the wires on the now redundant switch

good secondhand ones come up from time to time on ebay, I don't think either parts or whole ones are available new?

My heater/cable switch was U/S So my solution was to keep the cable to operate the air flap, and connect a seperate toggle switch with a warning light to turn the heater motor on/off.. Not original but it works and does not look out of place
Thanks Ian

That's whats on mine but without a warning light, you can hear (and even feel I think) when the fan motor is operating

do yourself a favor though and avoid the cheap toggle switches and get a heavy duty 25 amp one (they're not expensive)

as per a previous thread, get rid of the need for a panel light switch by linking it to the side light / head light switch then use the "spare" switch for the heater on / off - a fairly common mod i think.

if you want to do that you can just make up a short connecting lead with a bit of wire and two spade connectors to link together the two spades going to the panel switch

that way if at a later stage you want to go back you can - say you if find a good s/h heater control later

Thanks for the advice.

Hi Les

I have the same problem, I would be very interested in the control/cable you have if it is not already taken.

Please email me with the price you would like for it:
